On March 27th, 2017, I’ll be embarking on one of the most exciting opportunities of my adult life – I’ve been lucky enough to be selected for a one-month work placement with freelance copywriting organization Working Web Copy. Writing has been a passion of mine for years, and the opportunity to take part in the everyday activities of a successful copywriting firm is a really big deal for me. For those wondering what this may entail, my overview of the organization can be found below:
Placement Employer/Host Mandate
The host of my placement is Working Web Copy, founded by Nipissing-based writer Angela West in 2009. The organization offers freelance web copywriting, social media management, print copy, press releases, and much more, and is delivered to clients digitally.
The targeted population of Working Web Copy seems to be largely based in Canada. Outside of Canada, Working Web Copy has worked for clients in Europe, the United States, and Australia, so any physical barriers do not bind the organization.
The organization works primarily with small businesses and independent clients who are looking to have web copy written by an experienced professional, or to hire a professional social media manager. I am unsure of the current number of clients that Working Web Copy is working with, but their portfolio and testimonials indicate that they serve a wide variety of satisfied clients and customers. Copy has been written for a wide variety of customers in many different industries, including real estate, health care, technology, insurance, leasing, and even for book launches.
Placement Employer History
The organization has officially existed since 2009, but Angela West has been writing and designing websites professionally in some capacity since 1996. Since 2009, Working Web Copy has managed to accumulate a large number of clients, large and small, working with The Co-operators, PC World, and Artease among others. The organization seems to be growing rapidly, taking on other services like social media management, blog writing, and press/media releases.
Placement Organization Personnel
The only full-time employee at Working Web Copy that I am currently aware of is Angela West herself, who oversees the entirety of the company’s operations. This includes contacting clients, advertising and marketing services, and doing actual web copywriting and social media management. Working Web Copy has accepted placement students in the past, and may employ part-time writers when appropriate.
I feel that I can contribute to my placement host in a variety of ways, including bringing my high energy level and passion for writing to the table and applying it to any copywriting opportunities I am given. Editing and peer reviewing copy is another contribution I am able to make, as is research and compiling lists of sources and information. My previous work and school experience has allowed me to develop excellent problem solving and customer service skills, both of which I hope to be able to apply to my time with Working Web Copy.
I hope to be able to make a positive impression with my upcoming placement host, and hope that I am given the opportunity to learn a great deal about the writing industry. This opportunity is one I never thought I would have, so I am thankful just to have been accepted for the position.
