Knowledge: My objective is to simply broaden my depth of knowledge on a wide range of subjects, most importantly the area of search engine optimization (SEO). I’ve chosen this because of its importance in the modern world of writing, and its ever-growing prominence online. I plan on developing these skills by reading about the subject of SEO’s, and by paying attention to the intricacies and patterns involved in writing in this style.
Personal Growth: Ever since I can remember, I’ve had distaste for all things “work”. I appreciate the pay and skills development involved, but I’ve always hated having to define myself as just one thing. My objective in my four-week work placement is to get past this mental block, and to finally give in so that I can properly acclimate to my quickly-approaching life of work. I plan on doing this by looking at work from a more open-minded perspective, and by making the best of every day spent doing the thing I love the most: writing.
Skills Development: As somebody who has considered himself an aspiring writer for a number of years, I would like to expand my knowledge of the industry, and learn some useful tools of the trade. My strategy to see this through mostly involves paying close attention to the things taught to me by my experienced and successful placement host, and by learning from my own mistakes and pitfalls as a writer. I hope to come out the other end as a much stronger and motivated writer.
Career Development: Since the industry I will be involved in for my four-week placement relies heavily on freelance work, I want to be able to properly learn the skills and patience required for this nature of work. I plan on meeting this goal by optimistically taking every writing, editing, and social media management opportunity I can, and by furthering my own interpersonal skills. These traits will better my understanding of freelance work, and better prepare me for a potential future in this competitive industry.
