What happens when you come face to face with stress?
For whatever reason this semester seems to be crazy, full of stress and a lot of work. Don’t get too alarmed, the work pays off in the end but lately school work, home life and my work life have just been crazy. As someone who personally has anxiety and A.D.D., I know that anxiety and stress do not do well together, especially when it comes to getting school work done.
Social media is a great way to stay connected to the world. It is now shaping how we live in today’s society. However, personally for me, it is distracting and addictive. I love social media but when I am trying to get homework done I find myself starting my homework, but then instead going on Facebook for no reason. I do it compulsively without even realizing it most of the time. This is also when my A.D.D. kicks in and I get distracted by social media and then nothing will get done that night.
So how do I deal with this? Recently, I have been coping by forcing myself to be more organized. Creating a list of what needs to get done and in what order and then crossing them off as I go. I feel like sometimes I stress myself out by overthinking things way too much which is common with my anxiety, but still not good. I also try to turn off my social media accounts and in some cases hide my phone so I am not distracted by that as well. A final coping strategy I use is talking to someone, whether it’s my roommate or a friend. I always find it’s best to talk it out with someone I trust. That way they also may have ways of dealing with stress that I may not be able to think of if I am not thinking straight.
