What started out as diary entries posted on the Internet--blogging!--is now becoming a place for businesses to keep up with their audience on a post-to-post basis. Blogs are often used for writing about one’s own experiences and observations, so using blogging for a business to get the word out about a product or service seems like a good idea. But is it? Let’s dive in…
Pro – Simple! With websites such as WordPress, Tumblr, and Wix that offer free blog templates, it’s easier than ever to start up a blog. Choose your template, write your blog, and have it posted in no time.
Con – It takes time! – Just like any other business, it takes time for people to find your blog. And it will take even longer for people to find your blog interesting enough to follow. Businesses think that social media is instant; they must understand that blogging is not. You cannot expect people to immediately find your blog, resonate with it, and immediately tell everyone else about it. It takes time. But when it does happen…
Pro – Develop a community! – Businesses can expect with a good blog to be able to develop a following. People who are reading and commenting on posts can help develop the brand in positive ways and, will most likely follow the business on other social media sites. It is reassuring to know that there are real people out there who are reading the blog.
Con – Update, update, update! – You have to keep up with the times. If you want your community to stay, you have to be willing to commit a large portion of your time to writing for them. Keep your blogs fresh with posts. If discipline and scheduling is the only way to help you and your business grow, then do it.
Blogging for personal or business use has its ups and downs. In this time of social media dominance, blogging can help you and your brand stay active and on top.
