The future of communication is very questionable. We are living in a very exciting time where we actually get to see technology evolve right before us. I was born before the internet was a huge deal. I remember as a kid calling my friends to talk. Then, as I got older, high speed internet became a thing, and it moved on to MSN to talk to your friends. Now it’s a big deal to stay connected to people, whether it is through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other form of social media. However, I feel like now social media has taken away the personal aspect of a message. I feel this way because you are not verbally saying the message, you are able to edit your thoughts to make it sound better and it may not be how you are actually feeling about whatever it is you are talking about.
So where do I see technology in the future? I feel like the next form of communication will be holographs. This would bring back the more personal aspect of communication. Right now with sending emails, texts, IMs, nothing is personal because people can edit their thoughts. I feel if holographs were used, we could bring back being able to talk one-on-one with someone. Holographs can also be great in cases where someone may not be able to come home for a holiday or birthdays. Instead of talking to someone over text, you are able to speak to the person face to face using a hologram.
We are living in a very exciting time to be experiencing technology and social change. It’s hard to predict where communication will be in even ten years from now, let alone thirty. It is hard to say right now if communication will change in a positive or negative direction; either way it should be exciting to experience whatever the next form of communication will be.
