There are a few reasons why I chose to go to college now instead of later on in life. I didn’t start my career as a college student right away. I originally went to school for music which, at the time, was something I was very passionate about. I soon learned that it was not the career path for me. So I left school and worked full time until I decided what I wanted to actually do for a career. It got to a point where I was not looking forward to going to work every day, which is when I told myself that I had to go back to school and better myself.
The reason why I chose to go to college over university is because you get the hands-on experience and one-on-one with the teachers. Also I like the fact that when I leave college I will be trained for the work world I am going into, as opposed to just knowing the theoretical part of the job.
I was a little discouraged going into my program of studies just because I had taken time off from school and I was a little older than the students coming right out of high school. Once I got to my classes I found I wasn’t that much older than most people and I also wasn’t the youngest in my program, which comforted me. My advice to anyone who is wanting to go back to school after taking a period of time off like I did is don’t wait. If you want to go back to school, do your research into what you want to pursue and research the college, then apply. The worst they can do is put you on a waiting list or say no.
My college experience has been great. I am excited to be leaving my program ready for what the work world has to offer me.
