Placement Employer/ Host Mandate
My placement host is the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH), and they are serving the surrounding communities in need of healthcare by funding the equipment for the hospital. The Foundation's fundraising services support the hospital in its efforts, to make it easier for families and friends that are coming in.
My placement is at the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation; the target population for them would be people in the community and surrounding areas that use their services. It is not limited to those that use the services; anyone can donate and share their stories with the Foundation. CPDMH in a given year will assist in taking care of more than 29,000 individuals.
Placement Employer History
The Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation has been around since 1994 when it was introduced by the hospital. Twelve years ago the Foundation became a registered charitable/non-profit organization.
The hospital is looking to expand, however it is undecided whether that means remaining in the current building or beginning from scratch, and that decision will not be taking place for quite some time. This doesn’t have a major affect on the Foundation as they are inside of the hospital and will stay or move with it.
Other organizations that would be looking into reaching the same client group would be other hospital foundations in the surrounding communities, and any educational areas that are asking people for fundraising money.
Placement Organization Personnel
For the Foundation, there is a board of directors, however there is a staff of only two personnel. The two jobs are: the manager of fundraising, and the donations administrator.
I feel I can contribute to my placement host, as I am a member of the community but have an outside perspective as I have been away for the past two years. I think this has a major impact as I know a lot of information about the community already, and have a fresh pair of eyes to look over the Foundation’s website, strategic plan, and can begin to create an official social media account. By already having experience working for a non-profit organization, I feel that I am one step ahead in the sense that I understand the importance of the fact that there are certain rules that need to be followed.
