The change of social media has been drastic over the past two decades with the rise of new platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Every day, people are simply connected with other users from across the world and their networks become larger as the years go on.
Envisioning the next set of trends that will become larger over the next ten years can be difficult for some inventions, yet easy for others. Specific trends that are growing immediately and will continue to take over in the years to come could be anything from virtual reality, to live video.
Virtual reality, or VR, hasn’t seen much popularity in the past year but we, as consumers, hear a lot about it. Most of the content came in the form of 360 VR videos, uploaded to Facebook and YouTube. It is not convenient enough yet for consumers but in future years I believe VR will start to take over, as smaller headsets will be revealed.
Live video is another trend that will become much larger in the upcoming years. The reason: using a live video connects consumers to the channels they subscribe to or like in a better fashion through apps such as Facebook, and YouTube, rather than seeing normal posts and videos on those channels and pages. Seeing your favourite YouTube channel or Facebook channel live and presenting to you in the moment is much more exciting than seeing an original post.
