Why do companies interact with their consumers; is it to build relationships? Or is it to make them feel more connected with the brand? Most of the time it's to ensure that the company is maximizing its selling potential.
My reasoning for this belief is because we see companies spending mass amounts of money to see what their consumers intake on social media and this may be a a breach of privacy, but consumers don't really know to what extent companies go.
Anyone with a social media account has given up their rights to privacy due to the fact that companies like Facebook routinely sell their users' information; this is why consumers will get ads directly linked to what they watch.
Even though this isn't right, it's the world we live in. Sad truth is that there is no way of ever changing this. Until companies like Facebook and Instagram take a stand and respect people's privacy.
