In the age of social media, countless companies are creating public awareness and fostering societal change using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other popular media platforms. Being surrounded by this mass of new media, many people wonder if traditional media is still relevant and beneficial for promoting its message.
Although new media is not free, it is still relevantly cheaper than traditional media; but if new media is so much cheaper, why do people bother with traditional media? Simply because it works.
While we find ourselves to be glued to our phone and our laptop, we are also faced with numerous traditional media throughout our daily habits. In the mornings, we are either listening to the radio in the car, reading the newspaper or watching some Saturday morning cartoons. In the evenings, we are typically watching the news or reading a magazine before bed.
Agencies are willing to pay big bucks to have their commercial appear in print or on TV, merely because traditional media works. As a result of that, traditional media will continue to have a role in today’s age of social media.
