Mack Hobbs (2016 grad) at May 2016: "I've been working as the marketing coordinator for Apollo gymnastics and I've been gaining a lot of experience!"
Elysia Monahan (2015 grad) at May 2016: "June 2nd will be a year at Jim Wilson Chevrolet (as Social Media Manager) for me. I cannot believe it has been longer than a year since you last taught me in the classroom..."
Andrew Winkels (2010 grad) & Jinjer Lorenz (2010 grad) at May 2016: "We have had an absolutely crazy few months since getting engaged. Jinjer just started with an Agricultural tech start-up here in Winnipeg, Farmers Edge. Farmers Edge is a fantastic company that has attracted well over 100 million dollars in investment in the last 12 months alone.I am heading to Russia for work (as Product Manager - MFWD Tractors, Versatile, Winnipeg) in June which will be exciting and Jinjer has started travelling to the US for her work as well."
Brogan Adrian (2013 grad) at May 2013, within weeks of completing the Advertising & Marketing Communications program: "I signed a one year contract with March of Dimes working full-time as a Market Researcher/Job Developer, so I couldn't be happier! Thank you for all your support!"
Dan Hamilton (2010 grad) at May 2013: "I had an amazing placement at an agency in Toronto which opened my eyes to what advertising entails. I was part of the commercial development process and took part in research, testing, filming, editing and launch. I took a year off after and then decided to hit the books again at Humber for Advertising Media Sales."
Edward 'The Ginja Ninja' Bowland (2008 grad) at Sept 2012: "I wrote radio spots for about 4 years before I was hired as Creative Director of Bell Media Radio Kingston. . . Without this program I would still be working in a lumberyard, listening to guys say things like "the world needs laborers..."
Angela Rawlings (2011 grad) at Sept 2012 as Sales Manager, Buffalo Airwear): "I designed a shot glass, sales of which have been through the roof. And yoga pants . . . I've taken charge on the Alex Debogorski brand. Started a FB page to promote and new hat designs are being worked on currently. I've never designed a hat before and I find a t-shirt is so much easier, but I like the challenge.
I am able to take charge which is amazing. I designed, and ordered a hoodie for women without any supervision, which has been great. I got the opportunity to learn every step of the process, and when it comes in I hope sales support what I did. Sometimes I look at it all and I'm blown away that everyone here has enough faith in my ideas that they are willing to put (a substantial amount of) money into it.
The opportunities at work are unlimited . . . angelarawlings.weebly.com"
Peter Magill (2011 grad) at Sept 2012, as Manager of Promotions & Retail, Buffalo Airways/Airwear): "We had Bruce Dickenson, the lead singer from Iron Maiden fly our DC-3 up from Edmonton and then fly one of our DC-4s around for the day in Yellowknife. This was my idea and with the help of friends and Omni Film we made it happen. Angela got Bruce to do a short video shout out for the web about Airwear and today Bruce was on the Iron Maiden Facebook site wearing a Buffalo hat ... great publicity!
Hot sauce and coffee have been going very well. I have it for sale in Shopper's Drug Mart here in YK and at both grocery stores in HR. A new cafe in Hay River, The Frozen Grape Kitchen Shop, picked up the Cup 'O Joe coffee as their medium blend and it has proven to be the biggest seller. The Mikey stand has proven to be a hit, we even have one at the Nasittuq canteen way up at the top of the world on one of the two remaining manned DEW Line sites.
I have two new die cast models coming in November with colletor designed boxes ...
blah, blah, blah. Get on Facebook BuffaloAirWear.com and check the website . . .
The Advertising Program has been transformational for me and afforded me the opportunity to find a career doing what I love; Advertising and Marketing. Daily I employ what I have learned at Canadore and continue to grow my career. Not only did the program give me the education I needed to succeed, it also gave me the tools to continue to learn and teach myself."
Stephanie Clark (2008 grad) at Sept 2012: "Current and past employers related to Advertising & Marketing Communications:
Crossroads Development Inc, Orillia - Office Assistant/Project Manager (8 mos); Boston Pizza, Orillia & Bracebridge - Community Relations Coordinator (2 yrs); Sunshine 89.1 CISO FM, Orillia - Promotions Coordinator & Sales Support (1.5 yrs); Priority Submetering Solutions, Pickering - Marketing Assistant (March - Current) Note: Originally started as a 1 year contract for Admin Assistant opportunity, the new position has been created in an effort to strengthen their marketing muscles and more aggressively promote in such a competitive market. A new hire has been made to fill the position I was originally hired for. Post-secondary education BEFORE Advertising:
I took the one year General Arts and Science program at Canadore to give myself time to figure out the best path for myself, and really look at the different programs the school had to offer. Like a lot of people that pick Canadore, it was the environment and the atmosphere that pulled me up North rather than to one of the three schools I was accepted to in Toronto or the GTA. I had excelled in the Media Sciences Program (Elective Program) when I was in high school and had thought Marketing would be a really cool and lucrative career path long before I ever applied to college. I made sure that all the schools I applied to (even though I was applying to the GAS Programs) had either a Marketing or Advertising Program that I could apply to my second year.
Bottom line, this program taught me a lot about my weaknesses and strengths in all areas of my personal and professional self."
