Social media has proven to be useful for brands over the years, as it helps businesses grow and reach a wider clientele. With the simple click of a mouse, companies can be searched within minutes, creating a whole new world to the marketing realm. However, this is not always an advantage, as there is always the opportunity for social media to injure a company’s reputation if the platforms are not used properly.
With that being said, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in this case. An advantage that comes from using social media as a marketing platform for brands is that it provides quick brand/product awareness. Using specific sites to establish awareness is ultimately key. Most people in today’s society use platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for both their social and professional lives. Companies’ advertisements are being seen virtually everywhere on the web and if displayed properly, these ads prompt customers and users to look into what you’re about.
Another instance when social media is advantageous (again, when used properly) is through its power to intrigue and gain customer interest in a matter of seconds. For example, if a company like Bauer (hockey equipment) were to release a Facebook advertisement stating “a new release is coming, stay tuned,” customers get interested and start talking about what’s to come and create a buzz for the product.
Social media is growing every day and it will continue to grow exponentially for companies over the years to come, and will improve brand and product awareness.
